Maybe it’s just my imagination, but it seems that with all the Deadpools, Batmen, Superman, and civil warring Spider-Men hogging all the headlines lately, we seem to have forgotten that there’s another massive comic book superhero blockbuster just around the corner as well. And damn, does it look… X-cellent!

Despite the initial round of Power Rangers jokes that greeted the first few reveals for X-Men: Apocalypse, everything we’ve seen about the upcoming sequel – toted as being the final act in a story arc that begin with X-Men: First Class and continued brilliantly in X-Men: Days of Future Past – has been pretty damn awesome. And a newly released trailer is certainly not doing anything to drop that ball one bit as we get to see a lot more of the pre-Ivan Ooze makeup origins of Oscar Isaacs’ titular mutant baddie Apocalypse, as well as a whole lot action screen time given to the new (old?) additions to the team like Ty Sherridan’s Cyclops, Ben Hardy’s Angel, Alexandra Shipp’s Storm and of course Olivia Munn as everybody’s favourite swimsuit wearing telekinetic telepathic mutant ninja badass Psylocke!

Check it out below!

Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshiped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel’s X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy) must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction.

Along with the new trailer, Empire have also unveiled 9 new covers for their upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse issue, giving us another look at the movie’s cast, and which all fit together to form a bigger image. Click on each image for the high-res version.

X-Men: Apocalypse also stars James McAvoy as Charles Xaver, Michael Fassbender as Magneto, Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, Nicholas Hoult as Beast, Rose Byrne as Moira MacTaggert, Lucas Till as Havok, Sophie Turner as Jean Grey, and Lana Condor as Jubilee. It is scheduled for release on May 27, 2016.
