While, like most red-blooded males, watching things go explodey-boom or seeing somebody’s fists rearrange somebody else’s facial furniture certainly does put a grin on my face, but I also love me a slow build thriller. And it looks like Oscar winning documentary filmmaker James Marsh (Man on Wire), with the help of Andrea Riseborough and Clive Owen has crafted a good ‘un.

And just for good measure, he also blows up a car!

Single mother Collette McVeigh (Andrea Riseborough) is a Republican living in Belfast with her mother and hardliner IRA brothers. When she is arrested for her part in an aborted IRA bomb plot in London, an MI5 officer (Clive Owen) offers her a choice: lose everything and go to prison for 25 years or return to Belfast to spy on her family. With her son’s life in her hands, Collette chooses to place her trust in Mac and return home, but when her brothers’ secret operation is ambushed, Collette finds both herself and her family in grave danger.

Shadow Dancer actually already had a limited release in the UK last year August, where it got some pretty good reviews, as evidenced by all the blurbs found in the tail end of that trailer. Now its finally getting a more international release and will be going undercover in cinemas on May 31, 2013.
