It’s official, Bible films are the next big thing, as that genre slowly starts to gain momentum and kick all those Twilight and Fairy Tale films out of the running. We’ve got a Noah film on the way with Russell Crowe slaying trolls and other beasts as he practises animal conservation, Paul Verhoeven wants to know more about Jesus and Will Smith is going to be behind a Cain and Abel story. And now, we’ve got one of the more well-known villains in new testament history, Pontius Pilate, getting his own film as well.

Vera “Woman on Top” Blasi has come up with a screenplay for Warner Bros, that will focus on the life of Pilate and what led to his decision to try and stick a sword in an infant, from his days on the battlefield as a legendary soldier, through to his time as a politician under Emperor Tiberius, culminating with his posting to govern Judea, instead of that sweet gig in Egypt.

It’s going to be a mix of Roman and Jewish history in this film, which will see appearances from such characters and real life figures as Caligula, John the Baptist, Salome and Mary Magdalene.

The script is being given some fine-tuning now, as Warner looks for a director to recruit. At the current rate that Bible movies are being announced, we’re already predicting that Mel Gibson will return to direct Jason Momoa in the most kickass version of the Samson tale ever put on the screen.
