While SA is usually a week or two late when it comes to seeing new movies, the times they are a’changin’. Except for Wreck-It Raplh that is, which I really wanted to see during my vacation but it’s only coming out much later in the month even though it’s been in the states for over two months and I’m drifting again.

Gangster Squad opens up on our side on January 11, the exact same day that it does in the US of A. Except that thanks to time-zone travel, we get to see it even earlier. Score! Here’s seven clips to get you amped up for some undercover cops versus gangster action, courtesy of Comingsoon.net.

Los Angeles, 1949. Ruthless, Brooklyn-born mob king Mickey Cohen runs the show in this town, reaping the ill-gotten gains from the drugs, the guns, the prostitutes and if he has his way, every wire bet placed west of Chicago. And he does it all with the protection of not only his own paid goons, but also the police and the politicians who are under his control.

It’s enough to intimidate even the bravest, street-hardened cop…except, perhaps, for the small, secret crew of LAPD outsiders led by Sgt. John O’Mara and Jerry Wooters, who come together to try to tear Cohen’s world apart.

Starring Josh Brolin, Ryan Gosling, Nick Nolte, Robert Patrick, Michael Peña, Giovanni Ribisi, Anthony Mackie, Emma Stone and Sean Penn, Gangster Squad is directed by Ruben Fleischer. Originally scheduled for release last year September, the flick was held back to shoot some new scenes, after the cinema massacre in Aurora was felt to be too eerily similar to a scene in which gangsters shoot their way through the rear end of a cinema screen, slaughtering everyone in front of it.

No need to see the clips. With a cast like this, I’m going to watch it anyway. Just hope it’s not as plodding and annoying as Public Enemies.
