Official plot synopsis for THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 finally released

With casting for Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 seemingly using the same choice process as a key party, there are many fans wondering just exactly what the plan is with the Wall Crawler’s second rebooted outing.

How does Jamie Foxx as Electro and Paul Giamatti as the Rhino factor into all of this? Especially since it’s been widely assumed that the movie would be building up to the classic “Death of Gwen Stacy” story – Hell, even Gwen Stacy herself (Emma Stone) thought so!

Well, Columbia Pictures have released the film’s official plot synopsis, so hopefully now we can pick up the strands of Webb’s…well, web.

In The Amazing Spider-Man™ 2, for Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), life is busy – between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with the person he loves, Gwen (Emma Stone), high school graduation can’t come quickly enough. Peter hasn’t forgotten about the promise he made to Gwen’s father to protect her by staying away – but that’s a promise he just can’t keep. Things will change for Peter when a new villain, Electro (Jamie Foxx), emerges, an old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, and Peter uncovers new clues about his past.

Nope, no clues to be found here. That just tells us a whole lot of nothing that we didn’t already know. In fact, it actually tells us less than we actually know, as Mary Jane Watson’s (Shailene Woodley) name is nowhere to be found, and you’d think that that would be a big deal what with her eventually becoming the love of Spidey’s life and all.

Also, no mention of Giamatti either. To be fair though, there hasn’t really been an official announcement yet of his casting, merely just THR reporting it and nobody at Sony denying it. Were we perhaps a bit too hasty with our fanboy ire?

With the film’s release of May 14, 2014 still a year and three months away, and production only getting under way yesterday, it’s still going to be quite some time before we see the first trailers and get a proper hint at the plot’s direction.
