With the recent news that we’ll be getting a Christmas in July with the next Mission: Impossible movie releasing 5 months earlier than expected due to director Christopher McQuarrie and star Tom Cruise just being plain awesome (also, getting the hell out of the way of Star Wars and Spectre), I was already super chuffed for the movie. And now last night, totally out of the blue, a teaser trailer and poster got dropped for the movie, which is now officially titled Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation. And it looks incredible!

We see glimpses of Simon Pegg’s expanded role in the field (as McQuarrie recently stated), there’s a nod back to M:I2’s cool motorcycle scenes, kickass fights with some beautiful new ladies, incredible car stunts AND A FREAKING FLUTE GUN! And that’s not even the craziest thing in this first teaser trailer! An even longer trailer is expected to be released some time later today, but for there’s already plenty to get excited about right here. Check it out below!

Phwoar! That looks tops. It certainly appears that McQuarrie and Cruise’s great partnership on Jack Reacher was no fluke, and in fact, I’m even picking up some of that movie’s cool vibe (possibly due to that jazzy guitar riff) in the opening scene of that trailer.

Oh, and in case you were wondering, yes, that really is Cruise is hanging on for dear life on the side of a real life plane as it took off and then flew around above England at 5000 ft. Oddball religious beliefs and couch destruction aside, you can never accuse Cruise of not giving it his all in his roles, as you can clearly see. Also, what the hell is he jumping into at 0:44?!

Director Brad Bird’s Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol was not only the most successful movie in the M:I franchise and Tom Cruise’s best earner ever, but is also widely regarded as the best movie in the franchise. With that kind of heritage, McQuarrie certainly had a tough act to follow, but at least based on this little snippet, he’s on the right track to matching it.

Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation was written by Drew Pearce (Iron Man 3) and Will Staples (Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3) and also stars Jeremy Renner, Alec Baldwin, Ving Rhames, Simon McBurney and Rebecca Ferguson. It is scheduled for release on July 31, 2015 and will be hitting local screens a week later on August 7.
