Oliva Munn cast as Psylocke in X-MEN: APOCALYPSE

Psylocke (3)

The new mutants, they are a-comin’! With X-Men Apocalypse featuring an all-new cast of children of the atom, plenty of new faces are popping up so far for Bryan Singer’s follow-up to X-Men: Days Of Future Past. And add one Olivia Munn to that cast, as she’ll be wielding a psychic knife as the improbably-named Psylocke in that sequel.

Which version of Psylocke however, is still up in the air. In the comics, Psylocke AKA Betsy Braddock was a British psychic operative who used her telepathy to help win battles for the X-Men. Here’s what she looked like then:

Psylocke (1)

And then stuff got crazy, and Braddock woke up in the body of a Japanese ninja assassin, retaining her psychic gifts as well.

Psylocke (2)

It’s the version of the character that most fans are familiar with, so it shouldn’t be a stretch for Munn either, who happens to have been raised in Japan in real life. Whatever the case, I have way too much adoration for Munn, so I’m considering this a win either way.

Munnis the latest edition to a cast that continues to grow. She’ll be joining  Tye Sheridan as Cyclops, Sophie Turner as Jean Grey, and Kodi Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler, in addition to Storm, Jubilee, and Angel. Regular cast members such as James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender and Jennifer Lawrence appear to be ready to leave the franchise, while High Jackman is prepping for his final Wolverine movie.

And it looks like this will be the flick where the new blood takes over. X-Men Apocalypse is out in 2016.
