Pirates of the Caribbean 4 wasn’t exactly the best film in the series, and that’s saying something after having watched the third movie which jumped sharks over a kraken that was swimming in a tsunami of rum. And there’s a good reason for that. Johnny Depp as the lead in a Pirates movie isn’t exactly a good idea. Sure, Jack Sparrow is mega popular, but he works best in small doses, not as a leading buccaneer. A fifth film however is on the way, with Depp back as the infamous pirate, and it looks like we could seeing a soft reboot of the series.

Speaking to IGN, Orlando Bloom discussed possibly returning to the franchise:

I’m not entirely sure that [I’ll be back] just yet, but there are talks. Basically they want to reboot the whole franchise, I think, and do something with me and the relationship with my son… I’m of course Davey Jones now, so I’m down the bottom of the ocean. It might be kind of fun to do something where I’m rumbling round the bottom of the ocean, because I won’t look anything like me. [Gestures to face] Get all gnarly.

HE AIN’T PRETTY NO MORE! I’d like to imagine that this means that the studio will pretend that the last film never happened. It was a rummy hallucination it was. Dead Men Tell No Tales will also star Brenton Thwaites, Kaya Scodelario, Gabriella Wilde, Lucy Boynton, Alexnadra Dowling and Jenna Thiam. Geoffrey Rush is also rumoured to be returning as the vile Captain Barbossa, while Javier Bardem is set to play Captain Brand, “a ghost bent on revenge against Sparrow, who blames Sparrow for the death of his brother and is searching for a supernatural object to aid him.”

Sounds like a typical day at the beach for the franchise then. Pirates 5 will be out July 2017.

  1. Why don’t they get Sandy to play the vile Captain Barbossa? He wouldn’t even have to act. 😀
