Paramount wants to create an expanded TRANSFORMERS universe of movies

Expanded movie universes. Marvel started it, and just about everyone else is copying them. There’s a lot of potential money in creating one big movie that has various spin-offs, with everybody from Superman to King Arthur getting in on the act now. But Paramount also wants some of that pie. Especially a pie that is more than meets the eye.

With the last Transformers movie making far, far too much money, Paramount has tapped a think tank of writers to come up with spin-off movie ideas, according to Deadline. Akiva ” A Beatiful Mind” Goldsman will lead the charge, with Michael Bay, Steven Spielberg and Lorenzo di Bonaventura serving as executive producers as they create “a potential multi-part Transformers sequel, and come up with potential spinoff films.”

Despite being terrible in a good way and then just plain terrible with each successive film, the films have been massively profitable. Transformers 4 broke the billion Dollar mark, thanks mostly to the fact that it successfully tapped the Chinese market in spite of the fact that it was a bloated mess with egregious marketing that went on for far, far too long.

Still, there are a ton of Transformer characters out there to create spin-offs for, before they assemble to come together to stop Unicron (I’m calling it right now) in one massive blockbuster movie. Bumblebee, Arcee and even Megatron are all viable characters, something which Bonaventura agreed with when Slashfilm asked him about last year when it came to introducing new characters:

As you know, we always introduce new characters.  The tricky part is if you introduce too many, the narrative starts falling apart. But he’s definitely a character we like too is the answer to that.  But until we know the story, it’s hard to say what’ll come in and what won’t.

Honestly, there’s one kind of spin-off that I’d probably pay stupid amounts of cash to see in action. And that’s a GI Joe and Transformer Dinobots crossover movie.
