Skylanders iOS

Last year, I experienced a special kind of magic at Gamescom. That magic came in the form of Skylanders on iOS. The idea made so much sense, and the implementation was so perfect, I was honestly blown away. You see, most kids play Skylanders, and then get upset when it’s time to leave the house and their mom and dad make them turn off the console and go. Alternatively, they aren’t allowed on the console, but they are allowed to play on the iPad. Skylanders on mobile devices was a revelation, and it’s continuing this year.

What I liked about it the most was that kids could continue playing on just the iPad while out of the house – certain characters were stored in the mobile device so they could play in the car or wherever. It’s the same complete game, just on tablet. This year, SuperChargers will also include the entire game, but this time it will also include a cloud save feature to allow for playability between multiple iOS devices.

The starter pack will include a Bluetooth portal, a Bluetooth controller and a built in-stand as well as the two Skylanders character figures and one vehicle. Upon download of the game, players will get Instant Spit Fire and Instant Hot Streak for free with the download, while in-app purchases will unlock Instant versions of Dive-Clops, Dive Bomber, Super Shot Stealth Elf and Stealth Stinger.

It’s this kind of innovation that will help keep Skylanders relevant for families, even as Disney Infinity and Lego Dimensions grab their share of the toys to life genre. I wonder how many ideas Skylanders will have up their sleeves – how long can the franchise keep innovating and staying fresh? Still, vehicles are changing things up this year, and by offering the complete game on iOS as well, it’s the ultimate in family life friendly gameplay.

Whats up with LG these days? Is everybody on twitter? It takes ages to load the site, the comments are sparse and lost 2 posts prior, the articles all seem to be on auto post. Social media changed LG.

Anyway for what normally would get 6 upvotes I posted this yesterday but I think every MGS fan are too busy enjoying the game.

You know, you may be right. Firefox and Chrome both seem to be massive resource hogs whereas my IE seems to much more stable, with far less RAM usage. I just do not like the way it looks, for some reason, so keep coming back to Chorme.

            Chorme

It is the new, more advanced version (big brother, if you will) that think 90Mb RAM on startup is a good idea.

Edit* Holy, crap. I see on Windows 10, with like 12 chrome pages open, it is only using 110Mb of RAM. Windows 8.1 it used a lot more. Hmm.

I have that issue with staff. They keep thinking my recent departmental reshuffle is an attempt at that. I understand that, I really do, jobs are scarce AND I have heard of other companies doing similar and then downsizing staff.

Not my plan. I hope I am never in that position. Ever.

The site had a week of attacks that literally fucked their database. Still trying to sort it out. And no, they aren’t all posting and commenting on twitter. Not by any means.

I am a bit concerned, as I have seen the comments drop. They need to resolve the site issues.

And I notice some of the features are on, but not working happily (Most discussed is from 2 September?) and the No Talky Talky comment count per article is just gone.

        Good luck guys.

This is a business, that provides us (the commentards, register.co.za) with a platform to talk about games and some tech issues, with reviewers we trust. Still a business.

I think Gav and Geof are gatvol and finally jaded. lol The Industry has swallowed them up.

Bring back the days when we would spend a week on LG talking about 1 videogame like MGS 4 lol Or the flame bait war that would last a year between the GT and FORZA fans.

Too many games now, and too little time.

Yeah, no I think the articles from Geoff are full of passion, as ever. He truly comes across as a passionate chap, with a minor sea obsession. Sea? Really? Perhaps he needs to build an inland lake, in old volcano hole, and put all that he hates in there. And then he can cover it easily. Yeah.

I really, really feel for them, as a DDOS attack is not easy to fend off, not at all. And the havoc it can cause is not always obvious. Years, ago I dealt with similar at a very large IT company, one of our clients, big company.. Truly devastating. And that scale, in those days, was tiny compared to the botnets you can get now.

Also, is malicious in nature. I hate that.

Ya, LG has come a long long way from its humble beginnings pre-disqus era.

It was the fanboy war between Lans and Nick back in 2009 that kept me entertained.

Then this Banana Jim fellow made me come back for more.

Then the site exploded to the point we were not allowed to have fun anymore because we might offend somebody. Buy buy IOL girls and South African hotties. Hello sponsors.

I dont blame them tho, they deserve to be on Metacritic.

Im just an old monkey on a nostalgia binge.

Well, yes. But I see shades of grey, where a lot of people see black and white.

You can have all things, oVg, but not at the expense of my rights to have all things. So, different space, for different folks. I do not want certain things to be “forced” on me, to see half naked woman when I want to read the Car magazine. Why?

Wow, this is going to go wrong quickly……

They had naked men too 🙂 also what the fcuk happened to the page 3 girls… and Hulk Hogan?… That video of his came out in 2004. Nobody gave a flying feminist. Now? its resurfaced and he is suddenly struck from the WWF Hall of Fame. This is the age we live.

I would rather have naked chiks on a game site than Amibos or Sexism articles 😛

This monkey needs more coffe and hopefully an old newspaper that was proud to show off a page 3 girl 🙂
