Arseface (3)

There’s a lot of love out there for the Preacher comic book series. 66 issues and several specials of some of the finest storytelling ever put on paper, the saga of Jesse Custer and his journey to bring the Almighty to justice for abandoning his creation is a tale filled with hope, love and camaraderie. It’s also a comic book series that has a character called Arseface in it.

MCDJIMM EC002

Hot off the news that Ruth Negga has been hired to play series protagonist Jesse Custer’s former love and eagle-eyed marksman Tulip, comes word that Ian “Baby Mama” Colletti will be getting his face done up for the role of Arseface. A tragic character, Arseface happens to be the son of hick town sheriff Eugene Root. In an attempt to end his own life after years of abuse and scorn, Arseface attempts to emulate his grunge hero Kurt Cobain by killing himself with a shotgun to the face.

Which he completely messes up, resulting in this being what greets the vile Sherrif Root every day when he gets back from work:

Arseface (2)

Things take an even further turn for the worse of course, with Root dying thanks to the events of Preacher, and Arseface swearing vengeance on Custer and co. A while back, Mark Steven Johnson attempted to get Preacher on the small screen, before Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg got a successful order for a pilot that will begin shooting soon.

Johnson even had some Arseface make-up done and applied, in order to sell his vision. Here’s what it looks like:

It’s even worse when you watch the character eat. Here’s the official synopsis from AMC on the show:

Based on Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s twisted ’90s comic book series, “Preacher” is about Jesse Custer, a conflicted Preacher in a small Texas town who merges with a creature that has escaped from heaven and develops the ability to make anyone do anything he says. Along with his ex-girlfriend, Tulip, and an Irish vampire named Cassidy, the three embark on a journey to literally find God.

I’m kind of amped that there’s movement on the show with casting so far. Hopefully soon, we’ll find our Jesse Custer.
