PREACHER is getting a second season on TV

Preacher (4)

I think we can all agree that Preacher is one of the greatest comic book stories ever printed. Sixty-six issues of a modern day western that is still as relevant today as it was when it first began twenty years ago, as Jesse Custer set out to quite literally find the Almighty himself and make him answer for his crimes. Preacher the TV series however? Man, it is weird as f***.

While the core trinity of Jesse, Tulip and Cassidy are exactly who you’d expect them to be, the liberal adaptation of the Preacher series is something entirely different. It’s slower, takes place in one location and features minor characters in a more expanded role. That being said, Preacher feels like a slow burn series as it steadily builds itself up to what I can only assume being a moment when all hell breaks loose and the holy excrement of the messiah hits the fan.

It has me feeling like season 2 will be when the series really defines itself, although I’m worried that the current oddball setup won’t survive long enough to follow up on those dangling plot threads when so few people are really talking about this series. Well worry no more, because parent network AMC has some faith in Preacher. Enough of it to greenlight a second season of 13 episodes even.

“Preacher is a special television program and we’re eager to share with fans the rest of this wild first season and, now, an expanded second season,” AMC president Charlie Collier said to Variety.

What Sam [Catlin], Seth [Rogen], Evan [Goldberg] and the entire creative team have achieved in bringing Garth Ennis’ graphic novel to the screen is extraordinary. We look forward to more time with these unforgettable characters be it in Heaven, Hell, Texas or beyond.

Great news then! So far, the highlight for me has been the opening minutes where we get to see more of the Saint of Killers when he was still a man. That, and the rest of the cast has been an absolute delight so far. Especially that fella with a face like an arse.

  1. I was thinking they could almost make a whole series based on the Saint of killers. Really like those opening minutes as well.
