Today finds the release of a poster and trailer for the mysterious film Upstream Color.  Did I mention how mysterious it is? It really revels in…mystery. That is no surprise though, considering it is the latest film from the mind of writer / director Shane Carruth.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with the name Shane Carruth, don’t worry, because I am pretty sure a relatively large chunk of people aren’t familiar with his first work, Primer, which he wrote, directed and co-starred in. The prize-winning 2004 film is still easily considered one of the best…if not the best, time travel film of all time. It certainly is the most complicated as one can tell from all the diagrams, theories and heated debates you can find online but everyone can agree on one thing. It is brilliant.

His new film, Upstream Colour, looks like it might be set to have us shaking our fists at the heavens in confusion again as the new trailer literally tells us nothing about what the film is really about. Thing is, I have a suspicion that watching the entire film won’t help much either. Whatever the case, I’m definitely going to be looking out for it. Primer was masterfully done and I am quite confident that Carruth will be putting in the same amount of passion and attention to detail into the new film.

Do you want to know what I’m talking about? Take a look at the trailer and the poster:

The official description of the film states:

“A man and woman are drawn together, entangled in the life cycle of an ageless organism. Identity becomes an illusion as they struggle to assemble the loose fragments of wrecked lives.”

Well, I did say it was mysterious. The film stars Amy Seimetz, Shane Carruth, Andrew Sensenig and Thiago Martins.

Someone, buy me a thesaurus for Christmas. Well, no, rather buy me a copy of Primer so I can prepare myself for Upstream Color. I’ll most likely need a Master’s degree as well.

This should be good – Primer was one of the coolest time travel movies I’ve seen…
