Ron Howard wants to rebuild the Dark Tower…

Things aren’t looking too good right now for Stepehn King’s cult series of novels, the Dark Tower. Ron Howard, Brian Grazer and Akiva Goldsman have been trying to shop an ambitious attempt at turning the property into an ambitious multi-media series of films, tv shows and merchandise, but original backer Universal has decided to pass on the films.

But it seems that there may be still some hope for the supernatural gun-slingers, as Warner Bros. has begun to show some interest in the property.

According to Deadline, Warner Bros. may be interested in making at least one Dark Tower film, with more to follow based on its success. The studio has already purchased the script that was written by Goldsman, and are asking for a quick rewrite, while Howard says that he still game to helm the project, provided that he can start shooting next year.

While it’s unclear yet whether Warner Bros. is interested in creating any TV shows to span the gaps between the potential sequel films, they do own the HBO network, and with the recent success of such high budget series such as Game of Thrones, the Dark Tower could be just what the network needs for it’s next hit.

  1. This should only go ahead if they can do the series justice. In my mind it’s the greatest piece of literature of the last 30 odd years.
