Are you a fan of Alden Ehrenreich, Disney and Lucasfilm’s pick to play a young Han Solo? If not, you may need to start getting used to him soon, as he’s going to be around for a long time. At least that’s according to a new rumour from NY Daily News which says that the House of Mouse have been so enamoured with the young actor, that they want him starring in more than just the one upcoming Han Solo spinoff prequel. According to NY Daily News’ unnamed sources, Disney have quietly signed Ehrenreich to at least a 3-film deal, with the plan being to develop more movies if the first is as successful as they hope. And according to these sources, “there is a real sense of excitement around the Han Solo movie and its potential”

Given that Han’s early adventures do not need to be tied to the Empire, it leaves story lines open with the opportunity to really give fans something different. They can explore new galaxies and crazy creatures and bring in a wide array of new characters. They feel that his character has the right potential to become a central figure in several movies. They’re keeping things under wraps at the moment, but the deal is that he has signed for at least three movies.

As much as I still just can’t ever see anybody other than Harrison Ford as Han Solo (well, maybe with the exception of this guy), Ehrenreich had one hell of a scene stealing performance in Hail, Caesar! so I’m rather intrigued to see what he does with the role. And if he pulls it off, then I have zero problem with him getting multiple movies. My only potential concern with this though is the timelines. How far back is the upcoming Han Solo movie set? If the unconfirmed reports that Ehrenreich is going to be introduced via cameo in Rogue One are true (and they certainly seem that way), then it can’t be too far back seeing as that movie is set right before the events of A New Hope.

So maybe a few years before that when, Han and Chewie first meet? That’s fine, but then does that leave enough narrative space to tell two more movies worth of story before we hit the parts of the timeline that have already been covered? Sure if this first movie is just the first chapter in a trilogy then it would be easy to pull off, but neither Disney/Lucasfilm or directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller have given any indication whatsoever that this will be than a standalone Star Wars Story. So what do you think? You want a whole separate solo Han Solo franchise or are you still in denial about this whole prequel thing?
