Rumour: Marvel wants Liv Tyler to reprise her role from The Incredible Hulk for their She-Hulk series

For the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s impressive how Marvel has strung 23 movies in a row that not only form a mostly cohesive story but are almost all exceptional in their own rights. They’re memorable to fans as well. Memorable, except the one movie often forgotten when people think of the MCU; 2008’s The Incredible Hulk. The second movie in the entire franchise

The reason for many people forgetting that this move is part of the MCU canon is largely because of the change in actors playing the Hulk, with Edward Norton not reprising his role in The Avengers and that starring turn going to Mark Ruffalo instead. With people instantly falling in love with Ruffalo’s fun portrayal of the green beast, people just kind of forget that there was another actor and movie in the whole thing.

And while Marvel has made efforts to tie back into parts of that movie over the years, it has remained one of those obscure movies in the greater Universe that need not be watched to still make the whole franchise storyline cohesive. With Marvel’s new set of TV series on Disney+, Marvel might be calling everyone to refresh their memories on it a little as they may be bringing back some characters from that movie for its planned She-Hulk series.

That’s according to a new rumour found on CBR.com, which claims that Liv Tyler is being sought to reprise her role of Betty Ross, the love interest of Bruce Banner in that first movie before he went into exile from his Hulk exploits. This comes following the news that William Hurt will be reprising his role as Thunderbolt Ross both in this new series and the upcoming Black Widow movie and showing that Marvel wants to continue its consistency across its different characters, even if this is a movie that many people might not remember as fondly as all the others (though it remains a worthwhile watch nonetheless).

I hope it does all come to fruition because the set of characters from that movie were definitely ones that we deserved to see more of and while there were a variety of licencing reasons Marvel never went back into making another Hulk movie, if we can see how their futures unfolded and were affected by the rest of the events of the MCU, that would certainly be worthwhile .

The Hulk was one of the few characters to feature in several movies in the MCU, so I hope they do right by the franchise one day!

I enjoyed The Incredible Hulk, the police car boxing gloves were awesome.

Would like Liv back in the role. I know some fans want Stephanie Beatriz (Nine Nine!) in the role, and she’d probably be awesome, but I like Liv so why not.

Fans want Beatriz in the role as she-hulk right? And Liv Tyler as Banners old flame. Beatriz would be awesome!

How about just once, in the inevitable post credits scene, she friendly shoulder jabs Thor, through some wall or some such

As mentioned below, Beatriz is being fan-cast for the lead role of Jennifer Walters aka She-Hulk. Liv played Betty Ross in The Incredible Hulk and is rumoured to reprise her role here.

Universal has the rights to the character, if I am not mistaken.

No, not quite. Marvel owns the film rights to the character, but Universal owns the Hulk film distribution rights. So Marvel can use the character anyway they like as long as they don’t make an actual Hulk movie, coz then they need to collab with Universal and the two studios don’t get along at all. I believe a similar situation exists for Namor, which is why he will probably be introduced as a character in another movie, but can’t get his own movie.

          Ah, that’s the story.

Pity about Namor if he’s in the same boat. He’s a character I’d love to see on the big screen.
