The words “Star Wars” and “rumours” have been very frequent bedfellows ever since the super secretive JJ Abrams came on board to direct and eventually co-write Episode VII. Since then we’ve also heard lots grapevine and water cooler talk about the films that will be coming up after Abrams finally kicks of the new trilogy. The only thing we know for certain about them though, is that Lucasfilm is also developing at least three standalone spinoff films (recently confirmed by parent company Disney’s CEO Bob Iger) that at last rumour was believed to be slotting in between the main trilogy films.

But with sister company Marvel already having a timeline mapped out to 2026 for their films, everything tells us that Disney definitely has a plan in place for Star Wars as well. And now we may just have received the first glimpse of that plan.

Toymaker Hasbro recently held an event to talk about the future of the product line. As Hasbro is the official maker of Star Wars tie-in toys, German fansite Star Wars Union was also in attendance. And apparently, it’s a good thing they were as Hasbro allegedly unveiled the movie release schedule right up to 2020.

2014: Rebels
2015: Episode VII
2016: Boba Fett
2017: Episode VIII
2018: Solo
2019: Episode IX
2020: Red Five

Now Rebels is obviously the upcoming Disney XD animated show, and ever since the first rumours about the spinoff films started rearing their heads, there’s been speculation that fan favourite bounty hunter Boba Fett would be the star of one, while an origin story for Harrison Ford’s Han Solo would be the other, and this schedule definitely confirms that. And while all of that is very cool, and something that we’ve spoken about at length in the past, it’s that 2020 entry though that really raises some eyebrows.

LukeSkywalkerRed5

“Red Five” is the callsign used by the fifth member of Red Squadron, a name used by several fighter pilot groups throughout Star Wars’ history. Most famously though, Red Five was the callsign of Anakin Skywalker when he was a part of Red Squadron during the Clone Wars, as well as the callsign of Luke Skywalker when he was a part of a later Red Squadron during the Battle of Yavin when the first Death Star was destroyed in A New Hope.

Several other characters have occupied the spot of Red Five before and since then, but the role has almost always been one of much prestige and infamy. A movie based around a fighter pilot joining this legendary squadron, and having to live up to the legacy of other Red Five’s could actually make for a very compelling yarn. Make it an X-Wing squadron, and the damn thing will just sell itself.

That is of course if all this is actually legit. Well, nothing say “guilty as charged” better than trying to conceal evidence, and that’s exactly what Disney appears to be doing.  Jedi News and Making of Star Wars both posted the schedules, and were subsequently asked to pull the content (which may just happen to us as well, so tell all your friends).

If this pans out to be true, then consider me even more excited (which I never thought was physically possible) for the future of Star Wars.
