Ryan Reynolds Confirmed as DEADPOOL

When last we heard, the Deadpool movie was a go, but deals were still being confirmed – most notably that of Ryan Reynolds, a huge fan of the character, who’s been agitating for both the movie and lead role for years; ever since he didn’t portray a version of The Merc With The Mouth in the movie that didn’t feature Wolverine and wasn’t released in 2009. However Deadline are now reporting that deals are being finalised and Reynolds himself took to Twitter yesterday and gave us this…

Deadpool tweet

Sometimes from the ocean of inanities in 140 characters or less that is Twitter a tweet-in-a-bottle washes up on the beach to brighten your morning. “Why are you talking in ocean metaphors?” I’m waxing poetic. “The only thing you wax is your back, sack &” Shut up Deadpool. No guys,  I don’t. “…yes he does.” SHUT UP!

ANYWAY, so it’s official – the movie is happening and the only person anyone can think of to do the character justice is on board. So begins the agonising wait for details on the movie itself. Of all the upcoming Marvel movies, this is one that’s the most out there. While people were initially skeptical of Guardians of the Galaxy because of its quirky nature, Deadpool ratchets that up another notch due to the fourth-wall breaking and extreme violence. Only the Regenerating Degenerate will take out a bunch of bad guys by blowing himself up in the middle of them while cracking a joke, then play football with the heads. It’ll be really interesting to see how they approach the material, but if the leaked test footage (which you can catch here) is any indication they’ve got a good handle on the character.

Deadpool will be directed by VFX-specialist Tim Miller (so there better be speech bubbles) and the screenplay is by Zombieland scribes Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Production is scheduled to being in March 2015 and it’s currently scheduled for release in the US on 12 February 2016. Oh and…
