Nobody is ever going to accuse Tarsem Singh of not having talent. The director of The Fall, Mirror Mirror and Immortals certainly has a gift for visuals like few other directors in Hollywood. His film’s just always seem to be missing… something. And maybe that something is a little Van Wilder.

Deadline reports that Ryan Reynolds will be taking time out of his busy schedule of playing ALL the superheroes, to star in Singh’s next film, a mind bending sci-fi thriller titled Selfless.

The film’s script was penned by Carriers writing duo Alex and David Pastor, and follows “a wealthy older man who discovers he’s dying and pays to have his mind transplanted into a younger man’s body. Turns out that body is a cadaver whose previous inhabitant was murdered. Soon, he’s hunted by killers as he tries to get to the bottom of who took him out in the first place.”

That right there, is certainly what you would refer to as an intriguing premise.  I’d be hazarding a guess that the film takes place at least in the near future, which means that Singh will once get to stretch that prodigious visual imagination of his.

While Reynolds, who has been doing some fine work lately, irrespective of the quality of the film around him, may just be the x-factor that Singh needs to go from that guy that makes pretty pictures to a true auteur.

By the time Selfless starts shooting, Reynolds will also have had some practice in playing a dead guy, as he’ll next be seen in the Men In Black-esque R.I.P.D., which sees him teaming up with Jeff Bridges as a couple of deceased lawmen who get sent back to the land of the living to police troublemaker spirits.
