SA’s Weekend Top 10 Chart: The video game movie curse continues

The only two video game movies I can recall that weren’t total disasters were Silent Hill and Tomb Raider, with a tip of the hat to Mortal Kombat. But certainly not Ratchet & Clank, which is getting all kinds of review agony and appears to be ignored by audiences too. Locally it plunged 3 spots and will be gone next week.

The good Captain still sticks to the top spot, but Jungle Book had to make a surprise step down to third. The Huntsman is slowly slipping, as is Barbershop 3. Zootropolis also felt the brunt of a 3 spot drop, keeping it far away from taking Frozen‘s crown.

Newcomers aplenty this past week with Mother’s Day, Bad Neighbours 2, Miracles from Heaven and Mignon Mossie, a local coming-of-age rom com.

Shed a tear for Batman vs. Superman, which bows out after a rather surprising run – I’d have expected it to tank hard, but it didn’t. Local drama Free State left after just a week, as did Queen of the Desert. Kung Fu Panda 3 also bows out after a relatively good run.

This “curse” you are talking of started with Mario Bros. but ends shortly with the International success that will be Warcraft (I really really hope).,
