SA’s Weekend Top 10: Welcome to the party, Charlie Brown

The Peanuts Movie has finally arrived, but will Charlie Brown finally get to kick that football or is Lucy still going to be his eternal antagonist?

Answering that is simple enough: Peanuts creator Charles Schulz said Brown would never kick that ball. But will the film enjoy box office dominance? Sadly it had to settle for a (not bad) 3rd place debut, failing to shunt aside the two giants, Spectre and The Hunger Games. Those two have not moves since last week and are likely to stay there until Star Wars arrives.

Creed, the new boxing movie and spiritual Rocky continuation, arrived at 4th – somewhat higher than Southpaw‘s 6th spot debut earlier in 2015. This means Goosebumps‘ successful run is coming to an end as it is being pushed lower down the rankings.

Arriving at 6th is Bus 357, a thriller about a heist gone wrong. Having seen this, I can say it’s not worth your time. But the presence of Robert de Niro and Dave Bautista clearly helped it along.

The rest of the chart just shuffled about, though a moment should be spent on Hotel Transylvania 2. After seemingly poised for a chart exit last week at 9th, it has instead swung back up to 7th. Clearly school holidays are creeping upon us…
