Save Oasis and save the world in this final trailer for Ready Player One

Right now, Black Panther is looking nigh unstoppable at the Box Office with the movie still on top and continuing to break records despite being released over 4 weeks ago. Obviously, this week’s release of Tomb Raider wants to change all that, but even if it’s not able to, Steven Spielberg’s massive blockbuster, Ready Player One, should certainly do so when it releases on Easter weekend.

The massive blockbuster based on a popular novel, being directed by one of the finest filmmakers in history and featuring enough nostalgia to delight pretty much everyone over 25 and enough social relevance to appeal to everyone younger. A recipe for massive success. But reputation alone is not good enough you need marketing, which is why we are getting yet another trailer for the film, which this time sets up the premise for those quite well for those who have not yet read the book.

And I must say, while the film still looks good, I still find its portrayal of the Digital Oasis in an animated form a little jarring. Part of the spectacle behind the immersive world of Oasis is that it was supposed to look and feel close to photo-realistic, which it doesn’t here. However given the scope of the massive action scenes and nostalgia drops Spielberg wants to build here, I’m not sure there is any other way of easily doing it either. So far, the film is shaping up to be a thrill ride and has been getting a lot of positive buzz around it so far. Not that anyone doubted Spielberg could do so in the first place. It’s getting people to buy into all that nostalgia that will determine just how much of a success the film really is.
