Saving the world isn’t a one man job in the latest Warcraft trailer

After waiting for ages and ages, the first official trailer for Warcraft dropped at the end of last year, and since then there’s been a glut of information to geek out over, from TV spots and set photos to posters and more TV spots.

While the first official trailer was solidly FOR THE HORDE (and more than enough to have Kervyn swooning in his seat), the latest trailer has given us more insight to the Alliance side, letting us in on the human’s plight of what happens when their world is suddenly invaded by enormous green monsters.

The peaceful realm of Azeroth stands on the brink of war as its civilization faces a fearsome race of invaders: Orc warriors fleeing their dying home to colonize another. As a portal opens to connect the two worlds, one army faces destruction and the other faces extinction. From opposing sides, two heroes are set on a collision course that will decide the fate of their family, their people and their home. So begins a spectacular saga of power and sacrifice in which war has many faces, and everyone fights for something.

What’s impressed me the most about Warcraft so far is just how much like a computer game it seems, and that’s really not a bad thing. Far from being another generic swords-and-sorcery fantasy movie (like Seventh Son or Gods of Egypt or 47 Ronin and you honestly can’t really tell the difference between them), instead it’s bright and colourful and cartoonish, almost over the top in its styling and design which really makes it stand out.

Another interesting point is the fact that director Duncan Jones isn’t really taking sides here, the usual fantasy movie staple of clearly defined good versus very obvious evil is completely missing. Both sides have their good and evil, and both sides have their own motivations, as is demonstrated neatly in the two different sides shown in the two official trailers.

Starring Travis Fimmel, Paula Patton, Ben Foster, Dominic Cooper, Toby Kebbell, Ben Schnetzer, Rob Kazinsky and Daniel Wu, Warcraft is scheduled to storm the gates of SA cinemas on June 10, 2016.

I sincerely hopes this movie does well both from a critical and commercial standpoint. How many more risks are producers and studios going to take before the concept of a video game movie goes the way of the Dodo ? I watched Hitman and was astonished at how bad the movie was. Personally, I hate that euro-centric vibe that makes it’s way into action films from time to time, ( insert french director here ) but when combined with a terrible adaptation it is bone jarring. The Game Industry certainly doesn’t need to prove anything as it has steadily challenged Hollywood for bums on seats, so to speak, for years now and has proved to be a very lucrative business for those involved. But, If only to serve a selfish itch, I hope this film bucks the trend and wins.

Would be awesome if they introduced Garrosh Hellscream. Seems to me like it’s around the time he was a baby/kid.

I can’t wait for the movie!
I’ve looked at trailer footage so much that I might just as well have watched an entire movie.
