Shakespeare's CYMBELINE has a new clip and it looks gangsta

I sometimes wonder what Shakespeare would have to say about all the different iterations of his plays that have made it to the big screen. There was the immensely popular Baz Luhrmann version of Rome and Juliet all the way back in 1996 (eek!) and the more recent Much Ado about Nothing (2012) directed by Lord Joss Whedon, a film I sadly have not seen but have heard rave reviews of. Now we have the most famous of his plays Cymbeline coming to cinemas! Wait, what?

It is not regarded as Shakespeare’s greatest work as the trailer states but does look like it will be a great deal of fun. Ethan Hawke (Training Day) is teaming up with director Michael Almereyda (Hamlet, 2000) again in an “epic battle between dirty cops and a drug dealing biker gang set in a corruption-riddled America.” So just another Shakespeare play then…

Have a look at a newly released clip from the movie below as well the first trailer (which we’ve featured previously – including a nice write-up on on story by Kervyn – but which was pulled off the net soon thereafter)

They will be joined by Ed Harris, Milla Jovovich, John Leguizamo, Penn Badgley, Dakota Johnson and Anton Yelchin. Although the movie is about to premier at the Venice Film Festival we will have to wait its commercial launch in 2015.
