Sherlock Holmes and that lady who caught Bin Laden are headed to Guillermo Del Toro's CRIMSON PEAK

Director Guillermo Del Toro may currently be up to his bullish eyeballs in big robots and even bigger monsters with Pacific Rim, but the man is nothing if not a multi-tasker. He’s currently juggling a number of projects at the same time, and one of those balls in the air, the horror story Crimson Peak,  just got itself some major star power in the forms of Benedict “I’m in EVERY movie” Cumberbatch and Jessica “Take that ginger haters” Chastain.

Variety was the one to break the news on Cumberbatch‘s casting as well as for Chastain, who recently also starred in the Del Toro produced horror Mama. The pair will be joining the already cast Charlie Hunman (who will be punching monster faces for Del Toro in Pacific Rim) and Spider-Man’s current squeeze, Emma Stone.

There’s no indication as to what roles any of these actors will be playing, as currently not much is known about the story for Crimson Peak, which the director recently described as a “throwback” to classic haunted house horror stories. Del Toro and screenwriter Lucinda Coxon are currently working through a rewrite of the original screenplay that he and writer Matthew Robins originally came up with.

After seemingly being attached to just about every role whose description had the word “female” in it, Chastain’s schedule has eased off quite a bit after her Oscar winning turn in Zero Dark Thirty. She’s currently dabbling with the idea of playing Jane in David Yates’ Tarzan, and can next be seen in The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby (which surprisingly has nothing to do with the classic Beattles song), but other than that her schedule is pretty open.

The same cannot be said for Cumberbatch, who just came off playing… well, somebody in JJ Abrams’ Star Trek Into Darkness and is currently shooting the role of Julian Assange in the Wikileaks movie, The Fifth Estate. On top of that, he’ll soon be seen in the feature film adaptation of Broadway play, August: Osage Country, will star in Steve McQueen’s 12 Years a Slave, he still has to get all dragonly for the last two Hobbit movies and of course he still needs to film season 3 of the show that made him famous and landed him all these gigs, BBC’s Sherlock. So yeah, I’m not sure where he’s going to find the time to climb any peaks, crimson or otherwise.

Let’s hope Del Toro and co can come to some agreement with the Englishman though, as this is shaping up to be quite the intriguing film.

Cool, Del Toro knows something about horror. The Devil’s Backbone shows that.
