Snikt! Slash! Repeat! Check out new images for THE WOLVERINE

I’m the best there is at what I do, and what I do is avoid the spotlight for a considerable amount of time while making a movie that will hopefully wash away the bitter flavour of the first Wolverine movie. Bub. That’s been the name of the game so far for the upcoming return of Logan, as The Wolverine has kept a low profile lately.

Yesterday saw two new movie posters revealed for the Canadian slasher. And today sees eight new images teased for the film. Snikt!

Entertainment Weekly has the images, which shed quite a bit of light on the characters Viper and Yukio. Played by Svetlana “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy” Khodchenkova, director James Mangold says that the lethal lady will have some snake-like tendencies in the film. Hopefully ones that aren’t as blatantly obvious as the mannerisms that Randy Orton has in a WWE ring while Jim Ross overdoses on chicken wings while shouting about him being known as the Viper and I’m drfiting again.

“She likes to play with toxins,” Mangold said to EW. ”Viper views Logan like a great hunter might view hunting a lion in his quarry. There’s kind of an admiration, a desire to destroy and a desire to consume and to have and to hold.”

On the opposite side of the claws, is Yukio, who forms a “unique relationship” with Logan according to Mangold. An assassin with a wild side, Yukio is no less dangerous than Logan himself in the comics, and has allegiances which can change on the fly. She still totally hearts him though, yo.

So for those of you who didn’t read the classic comic that the film takes inspiration from (NERD SCOFF TO THE MAX!), what’s it all about then? According to producer Hutch Parker, it’s about legacies, love and most likely ninjas;

We pick up Logan in a very isolated state, full of self-loathing. He is sought out by a young Asian woman (Yukio) for reasons he doesn’t fully understand, who is asking him to follow her to Japan where he is meant to reconnect with someone from his past.

And what you’ll come to find is that this is someone he spent prison-time with in Nagasaki. And the legacy of that experience – effectively Logan saved him – is that this man is on his deathbed, and is looking to give him a gift, to thank him for the life he’s had.

But this gift draws Logan into a very complex and very unexpected world within both contemporary Japan and, to some extent, the feudal history of Japan. He’s so in isolation, so out of his element. It’s a much more powerful distillation of his character than you’ve seen before.

I’m looking forward to the next Wolverine film. Hugh Jackman practically owns the role, and thanks to that low-key marketing so far, as opposed to Disney with their spoileriffic TV spots, it’s making me anxious to go and see how the film plays out.
