Star Lord could have been Glenn Howerton?

My man-crush for Chris Pratt is obvious and one he didn’t help when replying to me on twitter with a few nice words and an ‘awesome’ (fanboy, sue me). Damn you Chris, damn you.

My first real exposure to the Man was in the hugely successful Guardians of the Galaxy as Star Lord and not in Parks and Recreatinon which is apparently well worth a watch. Many say he manages to mix in a roguish charm but at the same time also deliver a serious presence and personally I can’t imagine anyone else doing a better job. So it’s a curious fact that Director James Gunn had his eyes on Glenn Howerton of Always Sunny in Philadelphia fame as his next choice.

I think Howerton is brilliant at portraying the degenerate Dennis Reynolds in Always Sunny in Philadelphia (a show he also co-writes) but have a hard time imagining him as Star Lord. All this came to light after the rather brilliantly written GQ piece by Drew Magary was released that charts 40 facts about Chris Pratt that you may not know (you can read it over here).

Magary spoke with Gunn who said:

“Glenn came along a little bit later. But there was a good chance that, if I didn’t cast Chris, that I would’ve cast Glenn Howerton in the role.”

What do you think? Would Guardians of the Galaxy have been as awesome as it is now with Howerton at the helm? Or do you think that Pratt’s personality clicked just right for the role of Star Lord?
