STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS officially has the biggest global opening of all time!

It appears that we counted our banthas before they were hatched. And yes, I know banthas aren’t hatched, but I have a feeling that the folks over at Lucasfilm are too busy ogling their bank balances right now to care about my inaccurate metaphors!

As we reported yesterday, Star Wars: The Force Awakens made a mountain of money in its opening 5-day “weekend”, shattering several box office records and claiming numerous accolades along the way, including kicking Jurassic World off the top spot domestically with a $238 million take. On the international front though, it’s $279 million still fell a bit short of that achievement mainly due to the fact that is yet to open in the massively important Chinese market, which alone bolstered Jurassic World‘s figures with nearly $100 million on its launch.

But that doesn’t matter, because the final numbers are in and it appears that overall globally Star Wars: The Force Awakens has managed to make even more money than we thought! With the official domestic and international figure being adjusted upwards slightly from estimated figures to a respective $247.96 million and $281 million, if you combine those two numbers together… wait, hold on… um, carry the 1… then that means that The Force Awakens has now earned $529 million globally, surpassing the record set by Jurassic World‘s $525 million debut earlier in the year!

And just to show what good sports they are, Jurassic World producer Frank Marshall tweeted this image on behalf of himself, director Colin Trevorrow and producer Steven Spielberg, congratulating Star Wars on taking their crown.

(As a husband myself, I feel I just need to point out here that Frank Marshall is actually married to Lucasfilm President and Star Wars producer Kathleen Kennedy, so you’re damn right he’s going to congratulate Star Wars in public if he knows what’s good for him :D)

It’s probably been a ridiculous few days for the accountants over at Lucasfilm, and I think things are still just getting started. As a recap, here are all the records that Star Wars: The Force Awakens smashed over the last few days:

• Biggest Thursday “preview” gross with $57 million
• Biggest Friday and biggest single-day gross with $120.5 million
• First film ever to post a “triple digit” single day earning over $100 million
• Fastest film to $100 million and $200 million
• Biggest December debut (nearly 3 times previous record of $84.6 million)
• Biggest IMAX Thursday night preview ($5.7 million), single-day ($14 million, Friday), and weekend ($30.1 million)
• Highest theater average for a wide release ($57,568)
• Biggest global debut with $529 million
