It’s fair to say Warner Bros. has a lot riding on the upcoming Suicide Squad movie given that it’s one of the pillars that their fledgling cinematic universe is being built upon; particularly since Batman v Superman: Salt Dawn of Justice garnered mixed reactions from movie-goers and didn’t perform as well at the box office as was hoped.

The latest trailer looks fantastic (and which Darryn broke down for us here), but there was a slight hint of concern when rumours surfaced of reshoots being made in order to lighten the tone of the movie; which Captain Boomerang actor and semi-professional mannequin Jai Courtney swiftly dismissed as nothing out of the ordinary.

However it appears (via ComicBook.com and Slashfilm) that an early test screening was held the other day at the the Century 25 Union City and XD in Union City, California for some lucky fans, and their reactions are most favourable:

I’m also wary of reading too much into the early reactions of fairly unanimous approval Suicide Squad seems to have received – from an admittedly small sample. It’s worth pointing out that Batman v Superman‘s early reactions were extremely positive, yet it suffered from many negative reactions from critics and regular movie-goers alike once released.

But it does give me hope that – when compared to the divisive BvS, zero stakes Civil War and unapocalyptic X-Men – this might just be the superhero movie we’ve all been waiting for this year. What do you think?

Suicide Squad will be out locally on 5 August. Written and directed by David Ayer, it stars Will Smith, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, Jay Hernandez, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Ike Barinholtz, Scott Eastwood, and Cara Delevingne.

  1. ‘Batman v Superman‘s early reactions were all over the place’

Yea, not from evidence in the article linked. In fact, from that article, I’d say Batman v Superman was better received than Suicide Squad

So that’s what happens when I don’t reread what I rewrite.

Thanks, fixed to make a bit more sense. 🙂
