Supergirl is a fun little show that may not hit the highs of fellow DC Comics TV series The Flash, but at least it’s well above the creative gutters that other peer Arrow currently finds itself in. The show has a lot of things going for it – most noticeably Melissa Benoist’ constantly charming performance as Kara Zor-El aka Supergirl – but there’s one bit of silliness that has been a blight on its record.

Despite the fact that he’s Kara’s cousin and their origin stories are so closely tied, Superman has never really been on the show. Well he kind of has as a young boy on Krypton in a computer simulation. But when it comes to his adult superhero guise,  due to a combination of the producers not wanting to detract the focus from Kara and also a long standing gentlemen’s agreements that certain DC Comics characters will be kept for the movies, all we’ve mostly seen of him thus far is as heavily backlit silhouette or red and blue blue. Occasionally they’ll mix it up by just showing his iconic red boots in the shot, or even having him communicate with Kara via Internet chat. And I’m sure that at the time the producers must have thought these solutions very clever, but in reality they got really distracting and more contrived the longer it went on.

But luckily those shenanigans are coming to an end, as producer Andrew Kreisberg has confirmed that the Man of Steel – all of him, not just his footwear – is finally going to debut in the the show’s upcoming second season. Deadline elaborates that casting is currently underway for the role, with Superman expected to appear in the first two episodes when he visits Supergirl’s home turf of National City. The reason for his visit and whether he will be returning after these two episodes are unclear right now, but Kreisberg said the he and fellow producers Greg Berlanti and Ali Adler are “beyond thrilled to welcome Clark Kent and his slightly-more-famous alter ego to the world of Supergirl. We cannot wait to see who next dons the red cape.”

You may recall that this upcoming sophomore season will see the show moving proverbial house from the CBS network over to the far more appropriate CW, where The Flash, Arrow and spinoff Legends of Tomorrow are also produced by Kreisberg, Berlanti and Adler. This move has a physical component as well,  as the show’s production has also been relocated to Canada – where the other shows are staged – in an attempt to retool it with a lower budget.

With Supergirl on CW, it also expected to be part of the network’s now annual superhero TV crossover with Flash, Arrow and Legendsthe biggest they’ve ever done.

So are you looking forward to Supergirl and Superman finally being able to meet face to face instead of texting each other? I mean, where do they even store their cellphones on their costumes?!

I was gonna comment about how boring and uninspired the name “National City” is, but then i realised I live in a city called “Cape Town” in a country called “South Africa”
