Well this just went from bad to worse. When news broke recently that the long-gestating Rambo: Final Blood was being shelved by FOX in favour of a new Rambo TV series focusing on Sylvester Stallone’s action hero and a newly introduced son, most fans reacted with a concerted “What?!”. And it seems that one of those fans was Stallone himself.
Deadline reached out to Stallone’s reps with regard to Rambo: New Blood, and were informed that “contrary to reports, [he] has opted not to participate in the planned Rambo television series in any way at all.” Stallone himself added that “I wish the others well with the project.”
A Rambo TV series had been brewing for years now with production companies Entertainment One and Millennium Films always working with the intention of bringing Stallone on board. It’s believed that when FOX bought the TV series pitch recently, it was done so with the assumption that Stallone would be exec producing with the option to reprise his role. With that no longer happening, it’s looks unlikely that FOX will go ahead with the series development at all.
And that’s great news because with Stallone out of the mix, the little tiny miniature infinitesimal bit of hope I had for this project has already had its throat ripped out. What this means for eternally in limbo Rambo: Final Blood is still uncertain.
