Sylvester Stallone talks THE EXPENDABLES 3 – Going PG-13 and owing it to a generation

I’ll be honest here, and admit that The Expendable movies aren’t exactly made for folks who are looking for fine acting, logical plots are sensible ammo conservation. They’re rip-roaring action flicks witha  cast from yesterday that is clearly getting on in years. The previous two flicks were rated slightly above the age of most teenagers, leaving that demographic to either crib their way inside a cinema or wait for a DVD release. The Expendables 3 however, is dropping enough violence to be a PG 13 flick. Because Stallone owes it to the kids, yo?

Speaking at the Cannes film festival (via Deadline), Stallone confirmed that instead of fake CGI blood flying everywhere, assorted paramilitary minions would instead get neat holes in their torsos that didn’t drip various bodily fluids:

We want to reach as many people as possible.  It’s very close to an R, believe me, it’s right there.  But I think we owe it to the next generation.  We thought we’d join that club for a while.

Well that’s slightly dissapointing, because as anyone who has gotten older in life can attest to, f**k the younger generation. If you’re one of those people then you can join a Facebook group to boycott a PG-13 Expendables 3. Barring an act of Chuck Norris however, it looks like this film won’t get a third R-rating. Still, Stallone believes that even without a bodycount that reaches into the Rambo 2 category, this will be the best Expendables flick ever:

With the first one, I didn’t know which direction to go.  It was experimental, more dramatic and heavier.  In the second one, I think we went too far in the comedy and one liners. (For the third film) I realized we should get back to being more dramatic.  When men and women know each other, there’s a kind of human comedy, not jokes, but when the action starts I don’t like to do jokes.  So, I believe we finally got it right on the third one.  It’s kind of like marriage.

The Expendables 3 stars Wesley Snipes, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Kelsey Grammer, Antonio Banderas, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Randy Couture, Terry Crews, Kellan Lutz, Ronda Rousey, Victor Ortiz, and Glen Powell. Don’t expect to see Bruce Willis, because HE’S GREEDY AND LAZY!

Patrick Hughes calls the shots behind the camera, and the film currently has a release date in August.

Love the Expendables films … so much fun. Properly well done pop-corn flicks… not like some of these shtooopid action films which take themselves way too seriously, Expendables is exactly what it says on the tin.

PG or no PG… with this cast I’m sure it’ll be helluva lot of fun 🙂

I love how he says they owe it to a new generation. Holy shit what a load of bullshit.

Here’s the thing. If you have an R rating, there’s a limit on how wide your audience is.
The lower the rating, the wider your potential audience is which means more potential
    tickets.

    It’s business, pure and simple.

“We owe it to the next generation”, my mocha-chino ass
