Terrence Malick is not a director who shies away from ambitious films. He may not always have big budgets at this disposal, but he still pulled off several dramatic epics and pulled in big stars to assist as well. His next film, which will represent a change of pace in the form of a documentary, rather than a narrative is called Voyage of Time and is literally going to depict the creation of the Universe, where the official synopsis describes the following:

Voyage Of Time’ is a one-of-a-kind celebration of life and the grand history of the cosmos, transporting audiences into a vast yet up-close-and personal journey that spans the eons from the Big Bang to the dinosaur age to our present human world … and beyond

Now, this will not be first time Malick has told the story of creation, as he did so with Tree of Life – though that formed a small part of a greater narrative story around several characters, which was actually quite touching. However to have a film that is going to attempt to show you the big bang and how things were created all the way up to present time is going to be intriguing, not to mention to get the narrative engaging will be a huge challenge.

I’m interested to see what parts he chooses to focus on. If it were to be time-boxed into accuracy, the last 5000 years will go past in a mere few seconds – so I’m assuming he is going to only focus on certain aspects of this journey.

The film is going to be narrated by Brad Pitt and is going to be specifically released for iMAX audiences, so expect a huge effort to make this film as visually appealing as possible. I don’t quite know what to expect of this documentary, thought it sounds like it could be a spectacle that is

Would you be interested in watching a film that tries to tell the entire literal journey of life as we know it?
