The Avengers has Hulk-Smashed local box office records

It should be no surprise that The Avengers have done well all over the world, but here in mostly sunny SA, they’ve really made a Mjolnir-shaped impact.

The film has been sold out since its launch, and while the rest of the global figures are impressive so far, it’s the box office breaking records on our local silver and 3D screens that has really been phenomenal so far.

Over the traditional three day Box Office period, from Friday to Sunday, the film grossed R8.5 million, and set several records as well, for the biggest totals on Fridays and Sundays, ever seen.

By yesterday, the total gross so far was over R15 million, making The Avengers a massive success, with the highest three day gross ever seen, locally. Putting together an all star cast of Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Samuel L Jackson, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hiddleston and Jeremy Renner, the film saw the actors reprise their respective comic book roles for a two hour film, that was pure fun, action and memorable dialogue.

Wait, you still haven’t seen it? Go buy some tickets for it already, lest we shun you harder than a repulsor beam blow from Iron Man.

We, as a nation, can now finally hold our heads up high again. We can once again face the rest of the world with pride in our hearts. Joss Whedon just dethroned Leon Schuster’s Mr Bones 2. A feat not even Avatar came close to achieving.

Glad to hear I’m not the only person who feel ashamed for the tripe that is all Leon Schuster films. Accept for Untag. That was cool. But the rest… CRAP!
