THE CROW remake back on with Jack Huston in the lead!

“As the crow flies”, is usually a term used to describe traveling in a straight line. When it comes to the planned new remake of The Crow, that development has been anything but straight, as it went through all sorts of production issues from script changes to playing director musical chairs. The latest being proposed star Luke Evans walking away from the film, after apparently getting fed up of standing around twiddling his thumbs for too long, with the production effectively collapsing in his wake.

But borrowing a trait from another feathered creature, The Crow has risen from the ashes, and it’s found itself a new leading man! Deadline is reporting that Boardwalk Empire star Jack Huston is in talks to replace Evans in the lead, and I for one could not be happier. I was championing Evans for this, because I’ve always liked his work and felt he just needed that big breakout role to make him a star (which he may have subsequently received with Dracula Untold). But while I liked Evans’ work, I outright LOVED Huston’s. His Richard Harrow stood disfigured head and shoulders above the rest of an incredibly star packed cast as easily my favourite character on Boardwalk Empire, as he put in one helluva performance week after week as a tragic killer who returned from a great disaster and used his deadly skills to try to do right by his loved ones. Sound familiar, Crow fans?

Since his time on Boardwalk Empire, Huston has mainly appeared in smaller roles but Hollywood has definitely noticed his big star potential (although, I’m guessing that hailing from the Huston clan certainly doesn’t hurt when it comes to connections in the biz) as he’s also landed the lead role in Timur Bekmambetov’s Ben-Hur remake. But while I’m still very iffy on that redo, he seems perfectly cast for this new version of The Crow.

Acclaimed music video and short file director Corin Hardy will be helming this remake of Alex Proyas’ 1994 cult-classic adaptation of James O’Barr’s graphic novel, which saw the late Brandon Lee (who actually died during production due to an accidental firearm discharge on-set) in the role of Eric Draven, a murdered rocker returned from the dead to avenge his death. Cliff Dorman (Warrior, Entourage) will be penning this new version, which is expected to go into production in the next two months.
