Did you guys hear the news that Terry Gilliam is finally going to start production on his Don Quixote film? Honestly, this movie has been stuck in limbo for so incredibly long that I’ll really only believe that claim once I’m in the cinema and the credits start to roll. The end-credits, I mean – yes, I’m that disbelieving about these directing passion projects that seemingly get stuck in development hell for eternity.

One such film that is luckily now seeing the light of day is The Lost City of Z, the biographical adventure/drama from acclaimed filmmaker James Gray (Two LoversThe Immigrant). Gray was tapped to write and direct the tale of British explorer Percy Fawcett – who was obsessed with finding a mythical lost civilization in the Amazon rainforest – way back in February 2009 already. The film hit several hiccups though, including losing its leading man twice; first Brad Pitt and then his replacement Benedict Cumberbatch. Eventually though, Gray contracted the services of Charlie Hunnam, who unfortunately (no offense) is no Brad Pitt or Benedict Cumberbatch.

But as the first trailer for film shows though, with a great support cast which includes the eternally underrated Sienna Miller, Robert Pattinson And His Beard and a very un-Spider-Man-looking Tom Holland, Gray still has a very intriguing looking film on his hands. The trailer is a tad on the long side, and even changes tempo a couple of times, but this still looks like a movie I will definitely be keeping an eye on.

Check out the trailer below.

The Lost City of Z is currently still in production as hasn’t even acquired a distributor yet, and as a result does not have a release date.
