The good the bad and the ugly of the past week – 5 June 2015

3 min read

I often default to talking about the weather when I have nothing else of interest to say for the weekly wrap intro, and today is no exception, especially because it’s so effing cold. Know how I know? My one kitty waited patiently for the window to be opened so he could go outside. I obliged, at which point he did a backflip and went back to bed. Lucky bastard!

Best Stories

What a week… So much of good news everywhere! The prize pool for The International surpassed $10 million, Cape Town’s gaming expo EGE SA was a hit, and Steam finally offers refunds on purchases. Oh, and Xcom 2 was revealed. Some other game was also announced…

Worst Stories

As much as I hate that there so many MOBAs flooding the market at the moment, it breaks my heart to see that one of them will be leaving forever. Infinite Crisis is going offline in August. A pity, but I guess you really need to stand out if you want to compete with the likes of Dota 2 or League of Legends

Hey, Final Fantasy Type-0 is coming to PC? Score! I wonder if it’ll come with the-only-reason-it-actually-sold-well-in-the-first-place demo, Final Fantasy XV: Episode Duscae. No? Well that sucks.

Random Stories

Good news everyone – there’s a new Mega Man on the way! Wait, this isn’t the game Geoff has been waiting for… it’s a… cartoon? I don’t think anybody saw that coming.

Got some money to spare? Why not blow it all on this fancy schmancy PC case? One push of a button and it opens up like a purdy rose!

Header of the Week

Darryn might destroy me for saying this: I have no idea what he is referencing with this header. The Photoshop is pretty amazeballs though, which is why I’m giving him the award for header of the week.

ION of the Week

I’m calling this week a tie. Impressive cosplay or nomnomnom food? It’s a tough decision to make!

Most Comments

What gets people talking more than the announcement of Fallout 4 (289 comments)? The possibility of there being no gender options obviously. Sheesh, that article scraped in 330 comments!

Least Comments

What the heck. Darryn writes this awesome cosplay article and only gets 2 comments (one of which was mine)? Readers, I am disappoint!

Batman of the Week

Alessandro came so close to making Portuguese people around the world proud. SO SO CLOSE! And then Geoff appeared to sink that ship. Gah, you win this time Geoff!

Cabbage of the Week

Zoe in her younger days

Meanwhile, at the bottom of the foodchain, Zoe and I are fighting NOT to be cabbage. Think I care that she only started writing on Tuesday this week? Of course not… she’s the proud winner of the award this week!

Comment of the Week

I’m sorry, this comment was made this morning, making it ineligible for this award (I only take last Friday through to Thursday into account normally). Then again, I’m corrupt and do whatever I want, so I’m gonna go ahead and use it anyways because it made me giggle! Will Darryn win tomorrow’s bout of the century, Umar?

You know…Sometimes I look at D’s journal and think, man, look at that workout regime, that’s a champ right there…Then I remember the Darryn that spewed white foam while eating a chilli and then I’m just not sure anymore.

And now I can’t unsee that image. THANKS BUDDY! Here’s what he’s talking about, in case you haven’t seen it before…
