The king of monsters almost had a very different look in GODZILLA

You’ve got to hand it to the PR team over at Godzilla, as their efforts to keep the big G an even bigger secret paid off. Heck, we even got threatened with some legal action when we ran a photo of a photo of the king of monsters. We’ve seen plenty of official photos of Gojirra in the last month, with the end result looking like a gym-klapping force of nature. But he almosy looked very, very different before the final look was decided on.

Straight out of the art book Godzilla: The Art of Destruction (Via STYD), comes these concept images of Big G. I especially dig the design where his fins flare up as he unleashes his atomic breath. It’s an interesting evolution. Coming off of the 1998 film, you could see that the art department wanted Godzilla to still be lean and mean, but it looks like director Gareth Edwards overruled them all and went with a final look that was very, very faithful to the Toho films that started the entire franchise.

Pretty cool. Godzilla opens today, and according to Kervyn, it’s rather damn good actually.

  1. People just love threatening with crap just to make a quick buck.
    Anyway.
I really like the third one. Looks quite badass.
