Even though it pales in comparison to its source material, I still kinda dug The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen film that popped up way back in 2003 when every studio was desperate to cash in on the comic book movie fad. You had Sean Connery in top billing, tons of cash to throw on lavish props and sets and some decent special effects.
All combined into one actually excellent tale of adventure. The film made it’s money back, just barely, and since then has been stuck in limbo and those cheap R20 bins filled with films that you see in Pick ‘n Pays these days. But a TV series could be on the way in the near future.
Or at least a pilot episode to kick things off. Michael “Heroes” Green will be writing and executive producing a pilot for the proposed series, which will see some of the greatest figures in classic literature teaming up in order to take on threats that mere men are unable to. Such Victorian chaarcters include legendary hunter Alan Quartermain, Captain Nemo, Dr Jekyll and his violent alter-ego, the Invisible Man and Mina Harkness. Meanwhile, Alan Moore will most likely be spitting all manner of fire and fury at this latest adaptation of his work, but screw him, I want to see it.
This could be a winner for Fox, if done right. It’s got vampires, action, exposition and teamwork dynamics on offer. And plenty of good source material from which to draw influences from.

So what has happened to this one! It’s been almost two years since the story came to the fore.
