The Muppets are headed to Europe with an inglourious basterd

To say that I only liked 2011’s The Muppets is a bit like saying that Charlie Sheen only likes cocaine. For days after watching the film I was indeed still asking myself whether I was a man or a muppet. So I’ve been eagerly looking forward to more adventures with Walter, Kermit  and all the rest of those characters with men’s hands up their bums.

And while it looks like Jason Segel won’t be returning for a sequel, we do get a new face who certainly knows a thing or two about a maniacal laugh (Maniacal laugh, maniacal laugh).

THR is reporting that Inglourious Basterds and Django Unchained star Christoph Waltz will be joining the cast, who will now be off to sing up a storm and travel by map over in Europe. What we know about the plot thus far is that while, as mentioned earlier, Segel won’t be returning but his muppet brother Walter will stay play a central role, and that some sort of crime caper will be involved. This caper appears to be how Waltz’s character gets involved as he’ll reportedly be playing an Interpol agent, probably hot on their non-existent heels. No word yet on whether Amy Adams would return either, but with Segel not around, it’s unlikely.

The other main two human roles in the sequel are said to be “a Russian femme fatale and a male lead whose intentions are always in question”. Ooh, sounds intrigue-y.

Despite having his Catwoman moment with The Green Hornet (although, to be fair, he did a decent job with the drivel he was given), Waltz has delivered the goods every time. And with The Muppets director James Bobin returning to helm this film, which he also co-wrote with the first film’s scribe Nicholas Stoller, I’ve got a lot of faith that this will live up to the high bar set by it’s predecessor. Announce that Flight of Conchords’ will be back to do the music, and I’ll just about break out into song right here.
