Will we ever get enough of Friday The 13th? With twelve slasher films, a television show, novels, comic books this has undoubtedly been one of horror movies biggest franchises and it’s easy to see that fans of the genre still want to hold on to one the classics of our time. So it is no surprise that Paramount have yet another Jason Voorhees movie planned, and this time they are going back to the beginning, again – only this time they want to change things up.

Really?! Do we honestly need another Jason Voorhees origin story and does the guys seriously need a new one, I personally don’t think so. Sure, there is a whole new generation of movie fans that could get pulled into the world of Friday The 13th with a nice fresh take on the story and yeah with all the new technology and improvements in with make up and costume design in movies these days we could all benefit from a well filmed movie, with darker and scarier imagery. But couldn’t we just get that anyway with the original story still left in tact?

The movie will be produced under Michael Bay and Brad Fuller’s Platinum Dunes banner and this is what Fuller has to say about the project.

[Screenwriter] Aaron [Guzikowski]’s story has great characters…You kind of have to understand Jason Voorhees, so we go back and we kind of started over and work our way forward,” Fuller told TheReelWorld, clarifying that the film will include an origin of sorts. “Origin-ish, but it’s an origin that no one has seen before. Obviously Pamela’s there, but it’s a little bit different from what you’ve seen before.

For those of you wondering who Pamela is, she is Jason’s mother and was the original killer in the 1980’s movie, and she also appeared in the 2009 remake. Fuller also elaborates on the idea of using the “found footage” concept.

There was a lot of found-footage scripts that they wanted us to make and I was not going to do that because I don’t think that can exist in Jason Voorhees’ world.

Now there are no major details on the movie as yet and no official title has been announced but the project is slated for a January 13, 2017 release.

FFS. A new origin story AND it’s still Platinum Dunes producing these remakes? When will these filmmakers learn that to reinvent you aren’t supposed to add more depth. You’re supposed to find that x factor that made the original work and amp it up.
