The RZA and Grant Morrison are going to be HAPPY with a blue horse

Admit it, when you first saw the trailer for The Man With the Iron Fists, the writing and directorial debut of hip-hop legend the RZA ‘s (pronounced ruh-zuh, for those of you who ain’t from the hood), you were probably thinking “This looks insanely cool! But mostly insane!”. Well, that’s when you could think in between bouts of drooling on your shoes at the gorgeous visuals on display.

Well, if you thought that was off-the-wall, then you may need to prepare yourself for a whole new level of crazy with the RZA’s next film project, adapting the Grant Morrison comic book, Happy.

For those you unfamiliar with him, Grant Morrison is the psychedelic drug taking, self claimed alien abductee, madman genius of the comic world. He’s also Scottish, which is sort of like a collective noun for all the things I said about him in the previous sentence. He’s responsible for some of the greatest comic books of the last 30 years, and also some of it’s craziest. And his latest effort, Happy, the first issue of which was just released 2 weeks ago, is right up there on the kooky-o-meter.

The “malignantly sweary” book deals with “a young girl’s imaginary, magical, feathery blue horse and the disgraced hitman who’s working with it on trying to save the girl from a pedophiliac Santa Claus.” Also, there’s a gang of New Jersey criminals all named after My Chemical Romance band members. Yeah, it’s that kind of book. Here’s the official synopsis:

“Meet Nick Sax, a corrupt, intoxicated ex-cop turned hit-man, adrift in a stinking twilight world of casual murder, soulless sex, eczema and betrayal. With a hit gone wrong, a bullet in his side, the cops and the mob on his tail, and a monstrous child killer in a Santa suit on the loose, Nick and his world will be changed forever this Christmas. By a tiny blue horse called Happy.”

According to THR, Morrison is currently busy adapting his own script for RZA to direct produce, with Django Unchained producer Reginald Hudlin co-producing. There’s no word yet on this being picked up by a studio, but I have a feeling that some of the bigger (and less risk-taking) ones might not be too keen on a tale this twisted. I, on the other hand, can’t wait to have my eyeballs melted in their sockets from all the insanity.
