The sentence is awesome, in the full trailer for DREDD

Earlier today, we got to see ten seconds of the upcoming Dredd film. And dammit people, that’s just not enough! The lawman of the future is coming, and considering how the film was shot on location in Cape Town (The perfect Mega City One hellhole!), we’re pretty damn excited so far for it.

So here’s more than ten seconds of footage. Here’s over 2 minutes of Karl Urban confirming that he is the law.

Talk softly and carry a big Lawgiver Mr Urban? Dredd looks pretty solid so far, and with a bulk of the action apparently influenced by the Indonesian action juggernaut that was The Raid, we’re more excited than we’re legally allowed to be.

That carries a ten year sentence in the Mega City One prisons, apparently. Dredd is out later this year, so prepare yourself, punks, for DA LAWAAH!

The future America is an irradiated waste land. On its East Coast, running from Boston to Washington DC, lies Mega City One- a vast, violent metropolis where criminals rule the chaotic streets.

The only force of order lies with the urban cops called “Judges” who possess the combined powers of judge, jury and instant executioner. Known and feared throughout the city, Dredd (Karl Urban) is the ultimate Judge, challenged with ridding the city of its latest scourge – a dangerous drug epidemic that has users of “Slo-Mo” experiencing reality at a fraction of its normal speed.

During a routine day on the job, Dredd is assigned to train and evaluate Cassandra Anderson (Olivia Thirlby), a rookie with powerful psychic abilities thanks to a genetic mutation.

A heinous crime calls them to a neighborhood where fellow Judges rarely dare to venture- a 200 story vertical slum controlled by prostitute turned drug lord Ma-Ma (Lena Headey) and her ruthless clan.

When they capture one of the clan’s inner circle, Ma-Ma overtakes the compound’s control center and wages a dirty, vicious war against the Judges that proves she will stop at nothing to protect her empire.

With the body count climbing and no way out, Dredd and Anderson must confront the odds and engage in the relentless battle for their survival.

Sounds like Dredd inherited Batman’s gravelly voice…

YES! Looks good and uses a storyline from the comics.

Oh, woe the block that decided to stand up to Dredd…

Initially I had a problem with the Dredd’s helmet. It was too large and made me think of Spaceballs’ Lord Helmet.

However I am very excited to see this film.

Oh hell yeah. That looks like the business, indeed!

And I take back what I said about Karl Urban’s voice earlier. Sounds way better now

That does look good. The trailer at least. Karl Urban sounds very good, and I can only hope they leave the helmet ON! I’ve not seen him without the helmet on in the trailer and it really helped to maintain a coldly impersonable manner about him as well as some mystery, which is what Judge Dredd needs.

He seems like  bastard and you won’t be able to sway him on anything. Still, that trailer was middling. Which could be a good sign.

Back in the good ol’ days, trailers were often laughably bad, but their films were good. Today, the inverse is true. Great trailers, shit movies.

With this trailer being middling at best, maybe that points to something good for this film

I’m careful not to judge too much from the trailer, but already the way this was cut shows a different hand than the usual attempt to sell a film.

Pete Travis and Alex Garland have both confirmed that the helmet is not coming off.

I just showed the trailer to someone else and this time I had a lump in my throat. If this holds up to its promise…
