Sentinels! Not just the name of an ill-fated TV series that ran for way too long, but also the title of one of the most persistent X-Men foes ever created. Massive, lumbering and wielding too much technology in order to be properly recreated within the budget of the first several X-Men movies, the mutant massacring robots finally made a proper appearance in the recent X-Men: Days of Future Past. But not before going through several design phases.Concept art house Framestore design both the 1970s retro Sentinels and the later future versions for the Bryan Singer directed flick. Check ’em out:
There’s some cool designs there, taking just enough of a nod from the comic book originals and adding some movie magic to the final product. I also dig the Sentinel concept that apes the powers of Mystique. Maybe Skynet should have consulted Bolivar Trask before they designed the Arnie-bots. There’s more at the Framestore website, and it’s worth a look for all the cool art.
