We’ve already had one trailer for the upcoming mutant-palooza X-Men: Days of Future Past leave us slack-jawed, but since then we’ve had annoying Instagram teasers, magazine covers showing off bad costumes and a flood of onset pics from director Bryan Singer, none of which came close to getting us as excited as that first trailer did. But I think your raging nerd-ons are about to get a big dose of mutant growth hormone in the form of this new trailer that shows us plenty of the film’s dystopian future, the future Sentinels, one of the franchise’s characters finally looking like they’re supposed to, and much, much more!
The ultimate X-Men ensemble fights a war for the survival of the species across two time periods in X-Men: Days of Future Past. The beloved characters from the original “X-Men” film trilogy join forces with their younger selves from X-Men: First Class, in an epic battle that must change the past – to save our future.
It’s Iceman! And he’s actually made out of ice!! And he’s using an ice slide!!! Oh my geek gods, I never thought I’d see the day!
My geeking out aside though, there is a lot to take away from this trailer. Singer has previously indicated that this film is a lot darker than anything that’s come before, and that’s definitely the feeling you get here. Those future scenes look positively nightmarish, and how about those future Sentinels?
While I still think Singer and co woefully misfired on some of the character designs (though all that drab black leather definitely fits into that future setting), there’s so much else about this flick that holds incredible promise. One of these is just seeing all these mutants together on-screen, but unfortunately that’s also one of the film’s biggest potential pitfalls as we still don’t know how good Singer is at juggling these many balls in the air. If its revealed that Singer is kind of superpowered, ball juggling mutant though, then we are in for one hell of a ride.
Also, how badass (even more so than usual) is Michael Fassbender’s Magneto with that casual wave of the hand sending those cops flying? And that’s before he scores himself some Sentinel puppets.
X-Men: Days of Future Past hits cinemas on May 23, and stars *big breath* Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Halley Berry, Nicholas Hoult, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, Peter Dinklage, Omar Sy, Daniel Cudmore, Fan Bingbing, Boo Boo Stewart, Adan Canto, Evan Peters, Josh Helman, Lucas Till and Evan Jonigkeit *GASP!*
