Lazarus -469.cr2

One of the first horror movies that made me dream all kinds of crazy was the 1990 cult classic Flatliners, a story about a group of students who deliberately end their lives to be brought back at the last minute. Only problem is they end up bringing things back with them. Hang on, I think I just gave you the synopsis for David Gelb’s (Jiro Dreams of Sushi) latest movie The Lazarus Effect. Only instead of Julia Roberts we have the oh so lovely Olivia Wilde (pause, breath, carry on).

Made by Blumhouse Productions and written by Jeremy Slater (one of the new writers on Fox’s reboot of the Fantastic Four) and Luke Dawson (Shutter), it seems to follow the same line as Joel Schumacher’s Flatliners with a mix of Event Horizon thrown in. Students are experimenting with bringing animals back to life when an accident forces them to use their new medicine on one of their own. Have a look at the first trailer released from Relativity and let me know what you think.

SPOILER WARNING: As is the norm these days the trailer gives away quite a bit, like the death of one of the characters so if you don’t want to know what happens you might want to skip the trailer and wait for the movie to hit theatres on 27 February.

The Lazarus Effect also stars Donald Glover, Mark Duplass, Evan Peters and Sarah Bolger.
