Ladies and gentlemen, I hope you’re wearing the appropriate socks, because soon it may just be business time! Maybe. Hopefully. Oh come on, Universe! Just grant me this one, damn it!

Ever since New Zealand duo Jermaine Clement and Brett McKenzie’s utterly brilliant comedy-music show Flight of the Conchords ended after its second season on HBO in 2009, fans like myself have been clamouring for more. In the show, Clement and McKenzie played fictional versions of themselves who travel to America and meet with their manager Murray (Rhys Darby) and one fan Mel (Kristen Schaal) to try to make it big as a folk band. The format of the show saw the two men performing several new original songs, most of them totally hilarious, on a weekly basis. But the pressures of writing and performing new songs on a weekly basis along with acting in and writing the show was just too time consuming, which is why they never returned for a third season.

Since then McKenzie has kept busy becoming an Oscar-winning composer with the occasional acting role, while Clement has starred in/written/directed a string of quirky comedies, his latest of which – the vampire mockumentary Things We Do In The Shadows becoming a huge critical hit. And while talking to IndieWire (via BMD) about his latest role, Clement revealed that he and McKenzie are actually working on a script for a feature film version of Flight of the Conchords .

“We have actually started writing one. Who knows if it will ever be made, we’ve written some notes for some different film ideas. We’re not down to the stage where we’re going, “The film is going to be like this,” it could be this, this, this, this, this.”

Yes, okay, so that is nowhere near as definitive a response as I would have liked, but at the start of the week we had no hope of there ever being more Flight of the Conchords magic and today we have the potential for some on the big screen in the future. Me? I’m calling that a win! BINARY SOLO!

And because Flight of the Conchords is just too awesome to not share, here is some more of their music just for the hell of it!

Dunno if I could sit through a full movie of FOTC with humour that dry but would def try.

I’d also recommend Two Little Boys starring Bret McKenzie for ANYONE who loves quirky comedy.
