There’s plenty of magic, song and dance in this new trailer for Aladdin!

Aladdin

You ain’t never had a friend like me! When the original Aladdin film came out so so many years ago, it was another increidble milestone in the animated renaissance that Disney had kicked off with Beauty and the Beast. Scenic, colourful and memorable thanks to Robin Williams injecting plenty of craziness into the blue-blooded Genie that became fast friends with Aladdin of Agrabah, this was one film that stood the test of time.

So much so in fact, that Disney decided to give it the ol’ live action remake treatment, tapping Guy Ritchie to make a film to add a little of his British gangster flavour to the project. Even with Will Smith looking like a Pokemon on steroids, there’s something about this film tat looks kid of magical. Something that the latest trailer definitely has plenty of. See for yourself, below:

A thrilling and vibrant live-action adaptation of Disney’s animated classic, “Aladdin” is the exciting tale of the charming street rat Aladdin, the courageous and self-determined Princess Jasmine and the Genie who may be the key to their future. Directed by Guy Ritchie, who brings his singular flair for fast-paced, visceral action to the fictitious port city of Agrabah, “Aladdin” is written by John August and Ritchie based on Disney’s “Aladdin.”

And what’s a new film trailer without a new poster? Here ya go, although this one is kind of making the age-old mistake of contrasting blue and orange colours in the background:

Aladdin stars Will Smith as the Genie; Mena Massoud as Aladdin; Naomi Scott as Jasmine; Marwan Kenzari as Jafar; Navid Negahban as the Sultan; Nasim Pedrad as Dalia and Billy Magnussen as Prince Anders. You’ll get three live action wishes, on May 24.

  1. So it looks pretty good, all flashy and stuff. Not sure about Jafar, he’s too boring looking.

It’s going to be difficult though not to compare Will Smith to Robin Williams, given the fact that it’s the same songs and stuff. Sadly I think the nostalgia for the original is going to be a bad thing for this. It’s going to be impossible not to expect/want the jokes and stuff from the original in this. It should either be a perfect remake of the animation, or completely different so you don’t want to compare the two

EDIT: Also it seems that Iago doesn’t really talk/feature much. Booo

What will be the saving grace of this film if Iago doesn’t feature much?

Exactly. He probably won’t be providing the parrot power to Jafar’s crystal ball thingy either. What a shame.

Seriously, I see guys on the street regularly that could pull off this Jafar role without needing to act much, I really don’t like this pretty boy. Also, iago ftw. As an Indian African guy I grew up with this and lion king being something dear, why they fucking it up now man. What like that.

For me the best things of Lion King & Aladdin were Scar and the Hyenas, and Jafar & Iago. But neither this nor the voice actors for the new Lion King gives me much hope that those character interactions will be anywhere as cool as the originals

The bad guys made these stories great, what’s the point of hero without a great villain

It’s strange cause Disney most certainly used to know this. They’ve had some amazing baddies in their movies.

And now they have Kylo Ren 😀 I don’t hate him actually, just the plan they seem to have for him

Lol yeah they’ve certainly gone backwards in the evil genius department. It’s probably too offensive to have proper bad guys.

They did for some weird reason replace Prince Achmed (the guy on the horse who tries to whip the kids, and gets attacked by the tiger) with a new guy, Prince Anders. Guess someone realized Will Smith isn’t really white and they need a white dude in the movie.

Probably want to raise all new kids as precious little flowers who can see good in everyone, and that there is hope for everyone. Lets see how that works out 😀 We can all be anything we believe in! LOL

Jafar? Really? He does not seem menacing at all.

Is it just me or does Jafar sound like a little bitch …

Like there is nothing scary or intimidating in his voice at all …
