We’ve previously shown you a red-band trailer of Sausage Party before and a new one has dropped which is essentially the green band version of that one. It shows some additional new footage from the previous one, but much of the material is shared between the two.

Sausage Party is a new R-rated animated movie from the creators of Superbad and Pineapple Express and looks to take all the elements of those big films and put them together in an animated movie about food. This time though, food catches on to the circle of life and decides it doesn’t want to be eaten. It’s a great concept and if evidence of this trailer is anything to go by, it certainly works.

It might be an animated movie and has a host of colourful characters from your favourite food items, but it is most certainly not for kids – so be warned. Your kids might see pictures of this film and want to go watch this, but rather leave it for a night out between you and your partner instead.

In fact, /Film had this to say when one of their own writers previewed the film earlier in the year:

Sausage Party is offensive and filthy and easily one of the dirtiest movies ever made. Its final twenty minutes, which were mostly unfinished in this screening, may very well be the stuff of legend.

The film does star a host of top notch comedic talent though and regulars of the aforementioned films, so while many will find it offensive, it will probably be hugely funny too. The film stars Seth Rogen and Kristen Wiig, who are joined by an excellent supporting cast of Salma Hayek, Edward Norton, Jonah Hill, Michael Cera, James Franco, Paul Rudd and Danny McBride and is due for release in the US this August 12.

The official synopsis of the film is below:

Life is good for all the food items that occupy the shelves at the local supermarket. Frank (Seth Rogen) the sausage, Brenda (Kristen Wiig) the hot dog bun, Teresa Taco (Salma Hayek) and Sammy Bagel Jr. (Edward Norton) can’t wait to go home with a happy customer. Soon, their world comes crashing down as poor Frank learns the horrifying truth that he will eventually become a meal. After warning his pals about their similar fate, the panicked perishables devise a plan to escape from their human enemies.
