Things are looking sinister in these 9 new images from THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2

Director Marc Webb has been holding a Behind-The-Scenes-a-Thon – which is now officially a thing – on The Amazing Spider-Man 2, tweeting new pics, like the many comical faces of Paul Giamatti, every other day. However, over the last couple of weeks, now that principal photography has wrapped on the production, it’s been all quiet on the Spidey front.

That all changed yesterday when 9 new images were revealed, including yet another gaga Giamatti mug and one rather, shall we say, sinister pic that can’t really be considered a major teaser seeing as how it it outright tells you what it is that it’s “teasing”.

That pic above shows one of the production staff sitting next to the monitors used by Webb and co during shooting. What’s important though is the giant red “Sinister 6” painted above his head. Like I said, the very definition of an unsubtle tease.

Now for those of you that haven’t been following, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 appears to have a lot of villains – a lot – which prompted everybody who still painfully remembers how too many villainous cooks spoiled the arachno-broth in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3 to start worrying about how Webb was going to balance all the characters. Then the grapevine got hold of a story that claimed that Jamie Foxx’s Electro is the film’s main villain (something recently confirmed by Webb), and the other villains were just background characters being introduced to build up this new Spider-Man universe. The rumour then went on to declare that for The Amazing Spider-Man 3 we’d see the same villainous additions, with all of these costumed crooks being beat by Spidey at some point or another in the two films, but that at the end of the third film, they would band together, under the leadership of Spidey’s nemesis Green Goblin aka Norman Osborn to form the classic team of Spider-foes, the Sinister Six, who Spider-Man would have to face down in the fourth and final film

And now we get this. Is Webb just playing us for fools or is this the most on-the-nose tease in movie history?

While you ponder on that, check out the rest of the newly released images, which also include one excelsior comic book legend.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, Dane DeHaan, Colm Feore, Paul Giamatti, Sally Field, Chris Cooper, B.J. Novak and Sarah Gadon and is scheduled for release on May 2, 2014.

For Peter Parker (Garfield), life is busy – between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with the person he loves, Gwen (Stone), high school graduation can’t come quickly enough. Peter hasn’t forgotten about the promise he made to Gwen’s father to protect her by staying away – but that’s a promise he just can’t keep. Things will change for Peter when a new villain, Electro (Foxx), emerges, an old friend, Harry Osborn (DeHaan), returns, and Peter uncovers new clues about his past.
